Burnley FC v Blackburn Rovers youth match: police advice

Burnley lost the first game at Ewood Park 1-0 and thousands of supporters are expected to turn out for Wednesday night’s crucial return leg at Turf Moor, which kicks off at 7 p.m.

Eight people were arrested at the Blackburn game and Chief Insp. Julian Platt said “appropriate” plans were in place to ensure the second leg runs smoothly.

“Over 10,000 supporters attended the game at Ewood Park which must have been a fantastic occasion for the young players. Working closely with both clubs, an appropriate policing operation was put in place. In the main the game passed off peacefully, although eight people were arrested for various offences.”

Five of the men arrested came from Burnley including a 49-year-old man who was given a penalty notice for using threatening words/behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress and a 26-year-old who was given an adult caution for possession of a controlled drug.

A 37-year-old and a 52-year-old were given penalty notices for being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Rennie Clayton (45), of Celia Street has been charged for trying to enter a sports ground drunk. He has been bailed to appear before Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on April 11th.
