Burnley FC striker Chris Iwelumo ‘Clarets will be in mix’

STRIKER Chris Iwelumo has issued a guarantee that Burnley will be in the mix come the business end of the season.

The Clarets find themselves in 12th place after their game at Cardiff City was postponed on Saturday.

And they go to Barnsley on Boxing Day looking for a first away win of the season to boost their promotion ambitions.

But the nine-goal frontman is paying no attention to the league table, insisting the final table is all that matters: “I am not looking at the table.

“I never really do until March and I tell you now and I guarantee it that we will be there.

“This is a fantastic squad, a great bunch of players.

“For whatever reason, there’s something just missing at the minute.

“When that clicks we are going to be unstoppable.

“When the games come thick and fast we will get into that momentum and kick on.”

Iwelumo netted against the Tykes at Turf Moor (right), with Chris Eagles bagging a brace in a 3-0 win, but Barnsley have hit a good seam of form of late, and Oakwell is something of a graveyard for Burnley.

However, Iwelumo is desperate to beat the wintry weather and have a crack at Mark Robins’ men, despite training being affected by the conditions: “We all want to play.

This is our job, at the end of the day, and it’s really hurting the boys coming in and sometimes not being able to train.

“But we’re not the only ones.

“It’s just and parcel and you have to get on with it.

“Everyone is in the same boat.

“We are doing our utmost to stay in tip-top shape, but we just want to get out with the ball.

“Christmas should be a great period.

“I am looking forward to it and hopefully we will be putting some points on the board.”
