Burnley FC sell Danny Fox to Southampton

The 25-year-old Scotland international only joined the club in January 2010 from Celtic for £1.5m, one of Brian Laws’ first signings after replacing Owen Coyle.

He scored on his debut in a 2-1 win over West Ham at Turf Moor in the Premier League, and has gone on to make 56 appearances for the club, including the first two games of this season.

Winsford born, Fox started his career at Everton, but was released in 2005 without making an appearance, being snapped up by Walsall.

After 118 appearances in three seasons, Coventry snapped him up in a double deal with Scott Dann, and in his only season at the Ricoh Arena he earned a place in the PFA Championship team of the season, before sealing a move to Parkhead.

There he made his only international appearance in November 2009 against Wales, before joining the Clarets.

Fox’s departure leaves the club with one senior recognised left back in Brian Easton, who filled in when Fox was injured and suspended last term.

Southampton were linked with a £4m move for both Fox and Rodriguez at the weekend, but Rodriguez is likely to prove somewhat more difficult to prise away.

However, the Saints are believed to have turned their attentions elsewhere and were reportedly closing in on a £3.5m move for Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

Nigel Adkins has already snapped up Jack Cork, who spent the last season and a half at Burnley on loan from Chelsea, having paid a seven-figure fee and blown the Clarets out of the water in terms of their wages offer to the midfielder.
