Burnley FC manager Sean Dyche ‘one of lads’

DEFENDER Kieran Trippier admits Sean Dyche has given the players a chuckle in their boots.

Burnley go in search of a third successive win – and clean sheet – under their new manager at Ipswich Town tomorrow.

And right-back Trippier admits the hard work in training, coupled with a real togetherness, is reaping rewards.

The Clarets have won four of five games since Eddie Howe’s departure, and Trippier sees no reason why that form can’t continue.

Trippier said: “He’s a great manager to work with. We do more defensive work, and he puts a smile on everyone’s faces.

“We’ve needed to do more defensive work, and it’s paid off in the last two games with clean sheets.

“There’s loads of banter on the training ground, he’s more one of the lads, and his training sessions are good – that’s what’s putting a smile on the players’ faces.

“He has put some great ideas in our minds. Everything he has told us has been spot on, and we’ve done it.

“We’ve all stuck together and got the victories.”

The former Manchester City youngster feels there is more steel in the side, to ally to their attacking flair, saying: “He has changed the mentality of the team. We are doing things on the training ground and doing it out on the pitch.

“He and Eddie Howe are both great managers, but I think the new manager now has a bit more hunger about him. He will tell you how it is and that’s what we like.”

Dyche has spoken about finding the right balance, and Trippier’s own thirst to get forward has been more intelligently managed.

He said: “Last year I was flying forward all the time, but I’ve had a slow season, my defending wasn’t the best, but now the manager’s doing a lot of work with us, and as a unit we’re defending well.

“Going forward will take care of itself, it’s the defensive side of things I needed to improve.

“I think I only went forward three or four times against Leeds, but set up the winner, and for the other 85 minutes I was helping keep a clean sheet.

“If I don’t bomb forward, you have Ben Mee on the left, who’s great going forward, Rosco, Dean Marney, Chris McCann, Junior – I could go through the team, we have so many threats.”

Dyche, meanwhile, is hoping to transfer Burnley’s recent form to their travels. Last term the side won 10 times away, as their home form suffered, but the roles have reversed this year, with five wins at the Turf, and five defeats on the road.

Dyche said: “The home and away form gets talked about at most clubs, the reality is it’s 11 v 11. It’s more about the players’ mentality to deliver away from home.”

Ipswich are hurting after a 5-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Tuesday night, but Dyche anticipates a tough test, saying: “They will be smarting from an awkward result, but we always prepare the team to know about the opposition.”
