Burnley FC boost for prostate scanner appeal

The Burnley manager and his Championship-challenging players helped launch the “My Club Lottery” smartphone application – the first in English football.

Fans can download the app and buy their draw ticket from anywhere in the UK.

All proceeds from the first new-look draw this weekend, when the Clarets face Sheffield Wednesday, will go to support the £75,000 prostate scanner appeal for Burnley general Hospital.

The app idea was the brainchild of former Clarets chairman Barry Kilby who is suffering from prostate cancer.

Sean Dyche, who bought the first tickets for the draw along with his players, said: “It is a wonderful gesture by the club to donate the lottery proceeds to such a worthy cause and my staff and the squad are right behind it.

“Prostate cancer is something that will affect the lives of many, many men, and families, in Burnley and I would urge everyone to buy their ticket and help us raise as much money as possible this Saturday.”

Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle, who is leading the appeal, said: “I am extremely grateful to Burnley FC and Barry Kilby for donating all proceeds from their matchday lottery draw at this Saturday’s match to the prostate scanner appeal.”
