The next session takes place on October 31st in the James Hargreaves Suite - and you can give blood either between 1.15pm and 3.15pm, or between 5pm and 7.30 pm.

This will be followed by sessions on Thursday, November 21, and Thursday December 12, with appointments available in the same time slots.

For more information, to book an appointment or to find an alternative local session, please call NHS Blood and Transplant on 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk

Donated blood is vital for a wide variety of life-saving procedures in local hospitals.

Patients undergoing major surgery and emergency treatment often require blood transfusions, but perhaps less well-known is the fact that blood is essential to the treatment for many different types of cancer and blood disorders.

Anyone aged between 17-65, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor.

There is no upper age limit for donors who have donated in the last two years.
