Burnley defender Edgar receives international call

DAVID Edgar has been called up by Canada for a training camp ahead of their centenary friendly against the United States and two World Cup qualifiers.

The Clarets’ defender will link up with the national squad in Fort Lauderdale on 22 May.

Canada play the United States in Toronto on Sunday, 3 June in a game to mark the 100th anniversary of the Canadian FA.

And the ‘Canucks’ then face Cuba in Havana on Friday, 8 June and Honduras in Toronto on Tuesday, 12 June in the next phase of their bid to qualify for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

Ontario-born Edgar won his eighth cap for Canada at the end of February after establishing himself as a regular starter for club and country in an impressive season at Turf Moor which also saw him sign a new contract running until June, 2014.
