A QUARTET of victories have set the season off in style for Burnley College’s Football Academies.

In a friendly match at Reaseheath College in Cheshire, the female Football Academy won 12-0, with Extended Diploma in Sport Studies students Grace Thind (6) and Saphia Vanroose-Peer (3) the top scorers.

A Level student Sally-Anne Wright and Extended Diploma in Sports Science students Chantelle Brennan and Holly Broughton rounded off the scoring.

Coach Gemma Donnelly said: “The girls played some excellent passing football, and the fitness we have been working on in pre-season was evident.

“Hopefully it sets us up for a winning season.”

The men’s first team beat The Manchester College’s second team 8-1 and the second team were 4-2 winners over Blackpool and the Fylde College.

The third team beat local rivals Nelson and Colne College 2-0 with goals from A Level students Jonny Bolt and Luke Parkinson.

Coach Gerry Harrison said: “We are delighted with these early season results and are now looking forward to the rest of the season.”
