Burnley College defeats Australian trialists

A TEAM of Australian footballers aiming to secure professional contracts in England has lost to Burnley College’s league winning Football Academy.

The Australian squad is trained by England and Northern Ireland Under 21 coach Billy Stewart and Roy Tunks, assistant scout at Manchester City.

In the game at Burnley College, the Australian squad lost 5-1 to the College’s first team, with goals from Extended Diploma in Sport Studies students Mateusz Kapica (2), Callum Broadleday and Ben Short, and Extended Diploma in Sport Science student Joe Haworth.

Burnley College coach Gerry Harrison said: “The game was a great experience for our players, who were faced with very tough and skilled opponents.

“We are delighted with the form our players have shown in the early season and wish all of the Australian players well in their ambitions of securing professional contracts.”
