Burnley College Academy progress

Burnley College’s league-winning male Football Academy has progressed to the second round of the BCS Cup competition following a 4-1 home victory against Huddersfield College.

Advanced Level Sport Studies students Callum Broadleday, Scott Byron, Zac Holt and Mateusz Kapica were the game’s goal scorers.

Coach Barry Knowles said: “This was an excellent performance and result and we are delighted to have progressed to the next round of the competition.

The male second team were 7-0 winners away at St Wilfrids Church of England Academy.

A Level student Brad Campbell scored a hat-trick with Advanced Level Public Services student Matt Lord scoring two.

A Level student Luke Parkinson and Advanced Level Sport Studies student Eli Hey were the game’s other goalscorers.

Coach Gerry Harrison said: “It was a very pleasing performance as the boys kept their discipline well throughout the whole game.

“They are starting to gain a good understanding of the game and look like they are improving game by game individually and as a team.”

In addition to the Football Academy, Burnley College also runs Basketball, Netball and Golf Academies and has a Badminton Academy planned for next year.
