Burnley chairman Barry Kilby thanks the fans

BARRY Kilby admitted he was overwhelmed by the Burnley fans who gave him a standing ovation at Turf Moor on Tuesday.

Supporters’ had organised a 13th minute round of applause for the Chairman in recognition of his 13 years at the helm, following the recent announcement that he is to stand down in the summer for health reasons.

And Kilby admitted the spontaneous chants and standing ovation that followed were a humbling moment.

He said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed. I didn’t expect the crowd’s applause and it was a fantastic gesture that I really appreciated.

“It is unbelievable how many well wishes and kind comments I have received and I would like to thank everyone.

“I have been inundated with cards, texts and phone calls and I have a stack of mail that I have to work through.

“I will reply to everybody, but I just want to thank all the Burnley fans and anyone else who has taken time to get in touch.”

Burnley manager Eddie Howe also joined the chorus of approval, after dedicating Tuesday’s victory to the Chairman.

He said: “It was a really nice, fitting gesture from the supporters for a great man who has done such a wonderful job for this football club.

“He deserved that round of applause and to have everyone shouting his name.

“Barry is a very private man who likes to stay quiet in the background, so it’s nice that he is getting all this affection and I am really pleased that we won on Tuesday for him.”
