Burnley centre back James Tarkowski 'touch and go' for Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City

James Tarkowski is rated as "touch and go" for Wednesday night's Carabao Cup last 16 tie at home to holders Manchester City.

Tarkowski has missed the first four games of the season with an inflamed toe, at a time when Burnley have knocked back two offers from West Ham and one from Leicester City for his services.

Dyche had hoped he might be available for the games at Millwall last Wednesday night, and Saturday night's Premier League clash with Southampton, but the problem has kept him out, although he took part in the warm-up ahead of training on Tuesday, along with Ashley Barnes, Ben Mee and Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

That trio have already been ruled out of the game with City, and Dyche explained: "They just joined in the warm-up and are not ready to join the main session yet.

"We are just getting them back around the group really and then they will go and work on their individual work.

"For Johann it was nice to see him at least running on the grass. He has been doing a bit in the gym with recovery.

"Barnesy came through Friday (for the Under-23s) and that is really good news and he feels good.

"James Tarkowski was out there today and that will be a touch and go one as to whether he is right or not.

"Ben Mee just joined in the warm up and has gone and done some work on his own."

Jay Rodriguez was not involved, and will miss tomorrow night's game, and is likely to be unavailable for Saturday's trip to Newcastle United: "Jay Rod is not on the grass and Robbie (Brady) is hopefully settling down a bit.

"Jay Rod is highly unlikely to be involved this week but hopefully during the international break he will recover.

"We are beginning to get there, I still think it is going to be too quick this week for them.

"Looking after the international break I think we will not quite be at full strength, because Corky is a bit behind them, but we should be getting players back in and around it and at least in the squad and possibly in the starting line-up."
