On the same day that Dominic Raab suggested that the act was a symbol of 'subjugation and subordination', adding that he'd only take a knee for The Queen and his wife, the Clarets skipper reaffirmed the club's stance.

At a similar time to the Foreign Secretary sharing his views on the matter, Mee spoke in solidarity with the Premier League in their hope of projecting a message of liberation and emancipation.Manchester City gave their backing alongside Arsenal midweek while Aston Villa and Sheffield United did the same in the earlier kick off.

"I think it's a really powerful message that we're sending out. There have been a couple of incidents over the last few years and as players we want to make a stand.

"It's a fantastic gesture from the players, it's a good idea, we've all jumped on board with it and we all believe in it massively. We're all on board with it and we'll all be looking to do the same as a group."
