But boss Sean Dyche insisted the skipper was 'fine', having not made one of the concussion substitutions now available.

Mee took Jordan Ayew's shoulder to the temple and was down for treatment for some time, with seven minutes added on as stoppage time.

He was, however, seen walking around the perimeter of the pitch shortly after, as he made his way to the dressing room.

Dyche said: "He's okay, I think the medical team have to do things right and make sure they're well, but it was very pleasing to see him walking down behind us about five or six minutes after he'd had to go off on a stretcher, so we're pleased with that.

"He's fine in the dressing room, I've just had a chat with him."

Asked if it was a concussion substitution, with Kevin Long coming on, he added: "It was a straight substitution, yeah."

Asked as to the protocols, Dyche said: "They'll have to have a medical view, but we made a normal substitution. They do checks to make sure you're okay, and he's fine in the dressing room, I'll leave him with the medical team."

Dyche was delighted with the win, as Burnley dominated from the off, scoring early on through Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Jay Rodriguez before a second half goal of the season contender from Matt Lowton.

It took the Clarets 11 points clear of Wednesday night's opponents Fulham: "What pleased me the most was the fact the tempo was good, a few question marks in the week because I made changes, which I don't always do, but we keep getting injuries and the players give us a lot, so we just felt it was important to make those changes,. and it paid us back because I thought the energy levels were terrific, and the tempo in and out of possession, and the effective play I've talked about many times, how many ways can we affect a game to win?

"I thought it was all on show in a very good performance."

Burnley have struggled for goals, but had no problems at Selhurst: "A few questions about how many goals we've been scoring, but I thought the front two were excellent, and Johann is coming back to full fitness and sharpness.

"We've had to be careful with him.

"And Matt Lowton scores a class goal, not only the finish but the build up to it - that makes for a very pleasing day."

And Dyche dedicated the win to Alan Woan, father of assistant Ian, who died overnight.

Alan was with Crystal Palace from 1959-61, and Dyche said: "My assistant unfortunately lost his father overnight to Covid and the complications.

"His dad used to play for Palace, and I thought it was relevant for him and his family to remember his career.

"He had a great life, he was 90 years old, but it's hard for him and he's done brilliantly today to come down, commitment to the cause - it is what his dad would have wanted him to do, get on with his job."
