Burnley boss will have to box clever in the market

But Clarets boss Sean Dyche is up for the scrap, and confident the club can punch above their weight to bring the right players into the club.

Dyche hopes to ensure Championship survival first at Wolves tomorrow, so he can prepare for his recruitment drive, knowing which division Burnley are in.

And he is confident the new scouting structure at the club will reap dividends, with scouts despatched to all parts: “Our plans for next season depend on finances, what’s available and for what, both players we’re looking at in house and outside.

“The club traditionally doesn’t have one of the highest budgets at this level, and it is a challenge to make sure the club runs properly, but that’s part of life at this club.

“That’s not radically changed over time - I’ve studied the history and spoken to people, and a stand was virtually paid for by the sale of a player! (The Bob Lord Stand, costing £300,000, was completed in 1974, days before Martin Dobson was sold to Everton for the same figure).

“So we have to punch above our weight, develop players and work well within the market to bring in the players we feel can help take us forward.”
