Burnley boss sees point as good marker

Prior to the Championship clash, Harry Redknapp’s side had conceded just six goals on home soil but two goals from Sam Vokes and a Danny Ings strike trebled that tally.

“I told the players after the game that we’ve taken four points from one of the most fancied teams in the division,” said Dyche. “That’s a great marker. To leave wondering how we didn’t get the three points as well is another positive.

“It was fantastic for the neutral and obviously I’m delighted with the performance. It shows once again the winning mentality we have as a group. “They’ve been hurting teams left, right and centre, and I don’t think anybody has scored three goals here. We knew how well they defend so for us to come here, score three,

and take the game to them, is admirable. It’s difficult, especially when you’re 2-1 down at half-time. Overall I thought we were terrific.”

In the first half, the Clarets were undone by two Niko Kranjcar set-pieces that saw Kevin Doyle - signed on deadline day as a replacement for the injured Charlie Austin - and defender Richard Dunne find the net. But Dyche believes those moments of disarray were an anomoly against talented opposition.

“Our organisation has been good all season but sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up with the standard of player and the technical ability they have,” Dyche said. “They were real whipped crosses, ‘ugly’ balls as we like to call them, which are hard to defend.

“There’s possibly a foul for the second when Kieran Trippier gets bundled, before it lands to Dunne to finish, but overall it’s something we’ll look at, monitor, and run through with the team which is what we always do.”

However, the Clarets responded with a commanding and energetic second half display that needed Modibo Maiga to notch a debut goal to salvage a point for the hosts with 10 minutes remaining.

In the second half we were forcing the game through good energy and good play, creating chance after chance.” Dyche said. “We rattled QPR and scored the goals in the process.It was an absolutely fantastic game and one that we could’ve probably, possibly, have nicked.”
