The former record signing scored his first goal in a year to put the Clarets ahead within three minutes, and put in an impressive shift within the team framework, while also looking capable of adding some much-needed creativity.

All told, it was arguably his best display since a spell of outstanding form helped Burnley reach seventh place in the first half of the 2017/18 season - a position they never relinquished as they went on to earn European football.

Brady has had his injury problems since suffering a ruptured patella tendon in his knee at Leicester in December 2017, and has endured a number of false starts since, but Dyche said: “Pleased for Robbie, he’s put a lot of work into getting back fit.

"Like Johann (Berg Gudmundsson), he’s had a lot of niggles, but I thought his energy was good.

"(He showed) moments of real quality - we know he’s got that - he nearly finds (Chris) Woody with a superb pass through the middle of their two centre halves first half, along with scoring a fine goal of course.

“I’m pleased for him and he fitted in well with the team unit."

The Republic of Ireland international came off with cramp with four minutes remaining, and Dyche added: "He worked really hard and he is one we have to get that true level of match fitness in, and this is the final step.

"You can work as hard as you want on the training ground, but this is the final step and he has come through that well.

"I don't think there is a reaction other than fatigue."
