Burnley boss Sean Dyche: Contract extension is a platform for Robbie Brady to rediscover his best form for Clarets!

The club exercised the option on the Irishman's contract to keep the one-time record signing at Turf Moor until next summer.

The Dublin-born 28-year-old has been in and out of the side since signing from Norwich City in January 2017 after picking up a series of serious injuries.

Brady, who returned to the Barnfield Training Centre with the rest of the squad, has been limited to just five starts in the top flight this term.

But Dyche feels that the extension will provide some security and stability for the £13m signing, who is desperate to add to his 63 appearances.

Speaking about Brady, who was in tremendous form in the first half of the 2017/18 campaign, Dyche said: "He has had a tough time with injuries.

"It gives you a background feeling to know that you are here and you have that bigger picture to work for and a better platform if you like.

"I think that is important and we wanted to try and affect the things we can affect, even at this moment in time."

Dyche added: "There are certain situations that we can affect and this was a knock-on effect of his contract as it was an option so we took that.

"We don't know what the next challenge is going to be, if we can finish this season then obviously that helps for the running of clubs and finance etc.

"We do not spend massive amounts of money either so therefore it is important our own group is looked after the best we can so it is a step in the right direction on that side."
