Burnley boss rues tight margins

Boro won with an Emmanuel Ledesma goal midway through the first half, and Burnley’s attempts to retrieve the situation were foiled by on loan keeper Shay Given, while Dean Marney headed over a glorious opportunity from almost under the crossbar, under pressure from Daniel Ayala.

It was only a third league defeat of the season for Dyche’s men, who failed to score for only the third time this campaign, and he said: “I think it was a game where the margins were incredibly tight.

“Was it a fair result? I think you could argue the toss.

“We’ve had 56% possession away from home! which doesn’t win you the game! but shows you have a certain control.

“I just thought it was about the tiny margins, when little things go against you.”

Those little things included a foul on Jason Shackell by Marvin Emnes in the build-up to the winning goal, and he added: “It looks an obvious one to me, but I just feel if a player’s not looking at the ball and goes crashing into a player, it’s hard to see how that’s not a foul.

“We’ve not had our fair share of decisions so we’re hoping that balances out.”

Sam Vokes also had a penalty shout after the break for handball against George Friend, but Dyche admitted: “I’ve seen it, I’m not sure, it’s short range and I’d be disappointed if it was given against us, but I have seen them given.”

Boro’s celebrations after the game appeared somewhat extravagant, but Dyche believes that showed what a scalp Burnley have become: “The biggest message about today was how far it showed we have come when you see their reaction, I saw their bench’s reaction trust me, it looked like they’d won something other than a football match, maybe the lottery!”

Dyche also revealed Ben Mee missed the game with a minor thing strain, while back up keeper Alex Cisak had sickness over night.
