The Clarets go to Tranmere Rovers tomorrow for their penultimate warm-up game buoyed by an impressive performance and four quality goals from Ross Wallace, Danny Ings (2) and Junior Stanislas.

And Dyche said: “There was some really good stuff, some really good habits.

“You can see the fitness and sharpness is coming back. We’re managing to get more and more minutes into people, and so far so good, no serious injuries just a few niggles which is why Tripps (Kieran Trippier) and Ben Mee didn’t play. They’re nothing too serious.”

Dyche is looking for more penetration, and he got that in Cumbria: “We want to find that balance between a nice solid framework but still to play in the right manner, still to play to effect the opposition. The key thing we’re working on with the players is penetrating because lots of teams can try to pass and play, but we want to play with good quality passing, but it has to penetrate. Whatever way you do it, you have to penetrate the opposition to score goals and we did that very well.”

Scott Arfield and Ryan Noble made late appearances as substitutes after signing on Friday, and Dyche was pleased with his business: “We’ve not got deep pockets at the moment so we have to shop wisely but it’s important that we get the right characters in as well as the right players.

“It’s important that they come in and hit the ground running, so we’ll see how that develops.”

David Jones again featured, and he added: “He’s having a look at us to see how that develops. It’s an ongoing thing, he’s got a few more minutes for us. Obviously we’re being careful for his reasons and ours. He’s a very good player.”
