Burnley boss Dyche dedicates victory to the fans

Late goals from skipper Jason Shackell and Danny Ings - his 25th of the season - cancelled out Jordan Rhodes’ opener midway through the first half.

It gave Burnley an eight-point cushion from Derby County in third place, but, for the 4,500 in the Darwen End and thousands more watching at home and in pubs and clubs, it was about getting one over on the old enemy - who have now gone four games and four years without beating the Clarets.

A proud Dyche said: “People like me will come and go at clubs, but things like that stay forever.

“That’s a great moment, especially in the manner we turned it around from a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1.

“There’s great pride in this group, what we’re all achieving, the fans as well.

“That was for the fans, the people of Burnley, for the area, a smile on their face...

“It’s for the board as well because they’re all Burnley fans.”

His players remained composed in the heat of the derby battle, and Dyche added: “The team have given the fans something to be proud of, it’s always about players and what they achieve and look to achieve, and they are beginning to show people what a group mentality can do.

“I think that’s a real quality, the group mentality to never be beaten, to go hard every occasion.

“I said to the lads at half-time they had more freedom because the expectation changes at 1-0 down.

“I said we’re staying in the front foot, playing with energy, and whoever is on the pitch, we are going to affect the game.

“They delivered that very well, and got the two goals.

“When Jordan Rhodes went through after a sloppy pass, and hit the post, I said to Tony Loughlan ‘that’s it.’

“We’ve been waiting for something like that for a long time.”
