Burnley boss delighted with hard-earned point

Tom Heaton was well protected again, and Dyche said: “I think it’s a fantastic point, I think that’s the toughest game on the sheet of games today, because they have a new manager, arguably one of the best, if not deepest, squads in the division, with quality, and often players suddenly find more energy in their play.

“Tactically we had to perform very well, the only question marks was breaking from our tactical shape and go and hurt the opposition, which we did more first half than the second.

“But our keeper hasn’t had a save to make, and I’m very pleased with the tactical side of it.”

Burnley have won only two of their last 10 games, although conversely they have only lost twice in that time - and only three times in their last 26 Championship outings.

Dyche noted: “I view it as the reality of the championship, if you look at all the teams, indifferent segments of the season are a reality, the challenges haven’t changed.

“I looked at Wigan’s squad and their bench, and think ‘hello there!’, we’re lucky to get a 9 v 9 in training, and they could have a 14 v 14.

“It’s unforgiving, you have to be at it every week, but to lose only three games at halfway is a marvellous achievement, and to have played some of the football we’ve played, and delivered the performances we have, the players deserve no end of credit.”
