But he admits he isn’t as close to adding to his squad as he might like with a week to go before the big kick-off at home to Bolton.

Dyche is expected to tie up a deal for former Wigan midfielder David Jones in the next few days, after impressing in training and starting the last two friendlies.

Asked about the possibility of any more signings, however, he admitted: “Not at the moment. There are a few things in the offing but they’re not close enough to report on or for me to think they’re going to happen. It’s more a case of trying to align things. We continue to do that. We worked with low numbers last year and it looks like we will again this year.

“We’re still trying to bring in appropriate players within the structure that we have. It still needs affecting in certain areas but it’s an ongoing process.

“I think every manager says that no matter who they are.

David Moyes has gone in, he has a fantastic group of players but he’s already looking to affect it.

“Every manager will have things they want to tinker with and things they want to try to change and always looking to better the side and improve it.

“We’re no different. So far business has been somewhat limited but there are financial situations that need looking at.”
