Burnley ace Arfield ready for New Year’s Day clash

The 25-year-old clocked up more than 100 appearances for Huddersfield Town and found the net on nine occasions after signing from Scottish Premier League outfit Falkirk.

And the versatile midfielder has proved to be a revelation since Burnley boss Sean Dyche signed him on a free transfer in the summer.

Arfield, handed his first start in the away defeat to Brighton, has scored pivotal goals in victories over Birmingham, Leeds, Ipswich and Blackpool, and has only missed out on outings with QPR and the Capital One Cup loss to West Ham with a groin strain.

Ahead of the Championship fixture against the Terriers, which will also see a return for former striker Martin Paterson, Arfield said: “I don’t think I’ve proved anyone wrong, I just want to do the best for myself.

“The first step was to get a club, and what a fantastic club, try to get myself in the first team, and hopefully stay in it.

“That’s what every player wants to do. I don’t have any hard feelings towards Huddersfield, they were brilliant for me, and I enjoyed my three years there.

“I don’t think there’s too much to be read into it, Martin Paterson’s coming back as well, so it will be a big thing for him, he probably enjoyed his time here. I got taken off there in the 85th minute or something and got a nice reception. I did my best for the club and loved my time there.”
