Buff hits five as Lady Clarets ease to win on the Fylde Coast

Five goals from prolific striker Sarah Buffell–Greenhalgh steered Burnley Ladies to a resounding 6-1 victory over Blackpool at a windy Poulton-le-Fylde.

The lady Clarets dominated from the kick-off, and opened the scoring in the seventh minute as Rachael Wood’s pin-point cross was met by Buffell-Greenhalgh.

The Blackpool keeper produced a point-blank save, but the striker followed up to head home.

Burnley doubled their lead on the half-hour when Danielle Cooper stole possession in the central midfield and slipped a perfectly weighted ball to Buffell-Greenhalgh, who drilled a right-foot shot low into net.

Burnley made it 3-0 on 50 minutes, a cross from left-winger Jane Sexton finding Cooper, who headed in.

Buffell-Greenhalgh completed her hat-trick when Wood harassed the defender into another mistake, leaving her to lash the ball into the roof of the net.

Charlotte Hartley’s shot rattled against the angle, but Blackpool’s reprieve was short-lived, Buffell-Greenhalgh latching on to a misplaced back pass to make it 5-0.

Blackpool pulled a goal back, but Buffell-Greenhalgh bagged her fifth goal, jinking left and right before blasting into the roof of the net.
