Brian Jensen refuses to blame Graham Alexander

BURNLEY’S ‘Great Dane’ Brian Jensen refuses to get caught up in the hysteria following captain Graham Alexander’s spurned spot kick.

The Clarets have never lost a game where the skipper has converted a penalty; winning 14 games and drawing four in all competitions in the process.

And Jensen, who was beaten from 12 yards by Alexander during his Preston North End days, is fully aware that his captain has been a prized asset for the club and has backed him to bounce back.

He said: “It doesn’t matter. How many games has he won for us?

“It doesn’t matter, we didn’t lose the game. We missed a penalty but these things happen.

“He just cracks on with it and he’s probably going to score another 50 from now on.

“There’s no grudge about that whatsoever. We know that he is probably more disappointed than anybody else.

“We know he will step up again and we know he will put it in the net next time.”

The ‘Beast’vmatched his opposite number David James with a sterling performance which saw him deny Marvin Elliott and Jonathan Stead with superb reflex saves, earning his fourth clean sheet of the season to date.

But he admits the quality is there to see in all areas of the pitch despite failing to beat Bristol City.

He added: “We had another good game again, at least we kept a clean sheet. The main thing is we didn’t lose the game because we could easily have done that. But we created loads of chances again and had a really good game.

“I’m just happy about the clean sheets. We haven’t had them for a long period of time and now they’re coming back.

“It’s good but all credit to the back four, they’re playing well and they’re organised. At the end of the day making saves is what I’m there for.”

And it appears Jensen’s son Sebastian proved to be a lucky mascot for both keepers during the 0-0 stalemate at Turf Moor.

The four-year-old, a huge fan of England international James, posed for photos alongside six-year-old brother Jamie and the Ashton Gate shot stopper before kick-off.

Jensen, whose son’s admiration for the keeper stemmed from collectables such as Match Attax cards and through watching the World Cup, added: “My little one Sebastian is a very big David James fan.

“They were both mascots. They wanted a photo with David James so they were mascots.

“David showed what quality he has throughout the game.”
