Boyd, signed from Hull City on deadline day for what is believed to be a club record-equalling £3m, is in line for his Clarets bow at Selhurst Park - against the club he has supported all his life.

Boyd almost joined the Eagles, having talks with Palace 18 months ago while at Peterborough United, but he is now eagerly anticipating getting started with Burnley: “I’ve just got to work hard and try and get in the team first, but hopefully I can bring goals and asssists.

“I’m quite a creative player and the hardest thing to do in this league is score goals, so if I can do that, that will be great.

“The final third is the big difference at this level.

“You don’t get as many chances as you get in the Championship, but we have the players to score goals.

“And the next six or eight games are against teams we need to pick up points from.”
