Boyd confident of making history in survival scrap!

The 29-year-old, who beat the drop with Hull City last term, remains adamant that the Clarets will accomplish Premier League survival regardless of their current position in the table.

With 10 ‘cup finals’ remaining, the £3m. September signing said: “We’re excited, this is what we’re here for, we’re still in it, we’ve got a great chance.

“You have to be excited, you can’t let the nerves get the better of you. We’ve got 10 cup finals and we need to go out and enjoy everyone.

“It’s one game at a time, that’s all we can do, we can’t worry about the teams around us, I firmly believe we are better than three others teams that will go down. I’ve got no doubt that we’ll stay up.

“It’s one step at a time, but it’s 10 games to survive and make history.”

Sean Dyche’s side were comfortably beaten at Anfield last week as Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge netted. But Boyd believes his team-mates will learn a lot from that defeat, their fifth in seven outings.

“They’re on a good run of form and they passed the ball very well,” he said. “Heaton made a few great saves, but it’s a learning curve for us against one of the best teams in the league.

“It was difficult, they play a different system, they get a lot of bodies behind the ball and they press you, so it’s hard to find space, but it’s a learning curve and when a team plays like that next we’ll know how to deal with it.”

Boyd added: “This is why we play in the Premier League, it’s brilliant. You come up against all sorts of systems and Brendan’s got a system that suits the players, Lallana, Sterling, Coutinho, they get in the little holes and they play it well.

“But with our team shape and the way we move as a team, you can take so much from a defeat. It’s great to learn from them.”

The Clarets will have home advantage in the majority of their forthcoming fixtures, with champions Manchester City, Spurs, Arsenal and Leicester City all due at Turf Moor before the end of April. And Boyd has outlined the importance of capitalising on that: “We’ve got three of the next four at home. “We’ve got to make sure our home performances are good and we try and get a win at home.

“With the crowd behind us there’s no reason why we can’t get a win. We’ll go into every game thinking we can win. We did really well at Man City away so we’ll be confident from that at home. We can beat anyway on our day.

“It will be in the back of their minds that we’re a team that doesn’t get mucked around and we can use that to our advantage.”
