The lady Clarets scored a splendid early goal as star performer Charlotte Hartley latched on to a long ball through, rounded the keeper, and slotted home from the narrowest of angles.

A strong Blackpool outfit responded strongly, and the Seasiders equalised in the 23rd minute when a left-wing cross found the centre forward unmarked in the area and she finished with aplomb.

Hartley’s rising drive shaved the angle of the goal before half-time, but five minutes after the break, a mazy dribble from Em Forrest earned a free kick on the corner of the area, and Holt thundered the ball into the top right-hand corner.

And on the hour a pin-point corner from young winger Grace Bullock was volleyed home by Danni Cooper from 10 yards.

Blackpool reduced the deficit in the 80th minute and stormed the Burnley goal in search of an equaliser but were denied by two splendid saves by Sophie Valentine.
