Ben Mee prefers to look at positives

Ben Mee was frustrated not to give the fans an elusive win over Blackburn - but feels Burnley have plenty to be positive about.

The Clarets may not have beaten their old rivals in 11 meetings now, but they finished above Rovers last season, and are above them again, in fifth place having lost only once in eight games so far this season.

Mee said: “It was really frustrating.

“We all knew the history and we wanted to do well in this game and put it to bed and crack on and go and win some games.

“It was a shame, definitely, to not get that win, and the way it happened was a kick in the teeth.

“But everyone needs to pick themselves up because we’ve had a good start.

“We’ve got to look at the bigger picture.

“We’re above them anyway! There are so many positives, being unbeaten at home.

“We’ll go into the game against Birmingham with confidence and carry on the good start we’ve had and hopefully

get a win.”

Mee completed the East Lancashire derby at the third attempt after picking up an injury last December and being sent off in March, and he felt Burnley did enough to win: “I think overall on chances...I remember Tom (Heaton) making one save in the first half – a good save – and Ingsy’s bent one round the keeper that’s just gone over.

“Their keeper’s made two great saves in the first half and one came off Vokesy that could have gone in.

“There were a few chances that we had.

“We came out of the blocks really well. It was a good performance by us and we’ll take some positives out of it for sure.

“We’ll keep going into the next game on Tuesday and hope for the win.”

Rovers midfielder Lee Williamson was dismissed for hauling Danny Ings back in injury time, denying him a clear run on goal, but, as a professional, Mee admitted he might have done similar: “Possibly.

“Ingsy looked to be away and the form he’s been in he was going to win the game for us. It was really frustrating, but you can understand why he’s done it. It’s because it’s in the last minute of the game. If it was 20 minutes to go, I think we’d get an advantage, but because it was such a short time to go it didn’t really help us.”
