‘Beast’ hoping to attract Man Utd back for testimonial

THE wheels are in motion for Brian Jensen’s Testimonial year at Turf Moor.

“The Beast” is in his 10th season with the club, and a number of events are currently being planned - with the big Dane hoping his beloved Manchester United will bring things to a close with a special match to round pre-season off next summer.

Jensen famously denied United on their last visit to Turf Moor, saving Michael Carrick’s first half penalty as the Clarets won 1-0 in their first home game in the Premier League, with a goal from Robbie Blake.

And he would be thrilled if Sir Alex Ferguson would bring his side back to join in the testimonial celebrations.

The 37-year-old said: “It’s probably the most difficult opposition to get, but Manchester United is the plan.

“We have a few other options as well, but my first priority is United.

“The idea is that it will be the last home game of pre-season so that people can see any new additions and how the form is going into the new season.”

Other proposed events include a Race Night with a Twist, An Evening With Brian Jensen, a Golf Day, and a Testimonial Dinner.

But Jensen is eager to stress that the plans won’t get in the way of his bid to wrestle back the goalkeeping jersey from current incumbent Lee Grant: “The testimonial is secondary to the football obviously, but I’m excited.

“I know it’s going to take a bit of my time, but the more effort I put in, the better it will be for the fans hopefully.

“I’m going to do my utmost.

“It’s a celebration and recognition because it’s not often it happens, that you spend 10 years with one club.”
