With four games to play, Burnley’s Nick Pope leads the way with 14 clean sheets - a Premier League best for Burnley - one clear of Liverpool’s Alisson, the current holder, and Ederson of Manchester City.

The pair will be at opposite ends at Anfield, hoping to further their teams’ varying causes, as well as boost their hopes of their own individual accolade.

On loan Sheffield United keeper Dean Henderson and Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel are one shutout further adrift with 12.

Since the award was first presented in 2004/05, only Manchester City, United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have won the Golden Gloves, and should Pope break that stranglehold of the elite clubs, he would also become only the second English winner, after four-time winner Joe Hart - his former Burnley colleague.

Boss Sean Dyche joked ahead of the game: “We’re going to play 13 players, a line across the six-yard line, just to see if we can get him the Golden Glove!”

But, seriously, he added: “Popey has had a very strong season, I think a number of players have, he’s rounded as a keeper - someone said to me the other day ‘he’s unorthodox’, but I just like the fact he doesn’t let the ball go in the net very often.

“The rest takes care of itself.

“Tarky again, Dwight McNeil again, Ashley Westwood again, Corky, Ben Mee, have all had good seasons, and these are very important players for us, not just delivering this season, but at a high level consistently for a number of seasons.

“Woody has got his goals of course, Barnesy, Jay Rod. So many players have set good markers, and year on year edge it forwards.

“Unless there’s a massive change in funding here, you’re not going to take massive strides, just edging forward the best you can.“

Pope, having made his first England start in Kosovo in November, keeping a clean sheet in a 4-0 win, is putting real pressure on Jordan Pickford, along with Henderson, for the national side’s number one shirt.

Dyche certainly won’t be asking questions of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate, but said: “I think Popey will be happy with his performances, and certainly with his tally of clean sheets, our highest ever in the Premier League.

“He knows there’s a team that works hard in front of him as well, front to back, because we know we have to, certainly defensively to make sure we can compete and get something from games.“

Meanwhile, there are a number of issues still at stake tomorrow, despite Liverpool cruising to the title.

The Clarets are ninth ahead of the trip to Anfield, three points behind sixth-place Wolves, with four games to play.

Eighth place is likely to be enough to achieve continental qualification for the second time in three seasons, if Manchester City’s UEFA ban is upheld on Monday.

Liverpool, meanwhile, after ending a 30-year drought since they were last crowned champions of England, are in search of the Premier League’s first perfect home record, with 17 wins from 17 games, with two to play.

With 30 wins to date, they can also beat the most victories in a season - Manchester City’s 32 in 2017/18 and in 2018/19.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have 92 points and need another eight from a possible 12 to equal City's record of 100, set two years ago, and, with a 23-point lead, Liverpool are close to beating City's record winning margin of 19 points in 2017/18.
