Arsenal fan Gray hoping to slay giants in FA Cup again!

During his time at Kenilworth Road, just over 30 miles north of the Emirates Stadium, the striker helped Blue Square Premier outfit Luton Town overcome Premier League side Norwich City in the fourth round of the competition at Carrow Road three years ago.

The Canaries, armed with loanee Harry Kane on that day, were added to the Hatters’ victim list alongside Gray’s hometown team Wolves, who had been bypassed in the previous round.

The Clarets take on the holders tomorrow, and Burnley’s £6m record signing is relishing the challenge posed by Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.

“Saturday is a completely different game,” he said. “Whatever happens at the weekend happens, but it’ll be a good day for us.

“We’ll just have to enjoy it and see how it goes. We’ll try and win it.

“Most of the boys have already been there, but it’ll be good for me. It would be good to score. I want to score in every game.

“I’m not fussed who plays against us. It’s obviously going to be a strong team regardless. The main thing is testing ourselves to see where we’re at.”

The season after their exploits in the country’s most revered knockout competition, Gray went on to finish top scorer in the Conference with 30 goals as Town made a return to the Football League.

The Championship’s current leading marksman with 17 would welcome the same outcome this term though he’s glad to see the goals being shared out.

The Clarets have netted 20 times in their last seven league outings with six different scorers contributing in that sequence.

“The boys behind me are flying as well,” he said. “McCormack, Hernandez, they’re all scoring goals.

“It doesn’t really matter. Going up is better than being top scorer and not going up.

“It would be perfect if I could do what I did at Luton. There’s a long way to go. I’m on 17 now so we’ll see where it goes.

“We just need to keep climbing that table and kicking on now.”

Gray added: “It’s funny how things change. People were saying that we weren’t scoring enough goals and now we can’t stop scoring.

“Hopefully that continues but the main thing is to keep winning games and pushing on.

“I’m not always going to score the goals but we’ve shown that we can share them around the team.

“We just need to push on and it doesn’t matter who is scoring as long as we’re winning.

“We’ve got that right blend now and we’re really starting to understand each other. We’ve worked hard for this and we’ve deserved it.”
