Andy Thorn delighted with Coventry performance

The Sky Blues parted company with Boothroyd on Monday following a run of one win in 16 games that plunged them towards the wrong end of the table. Thorn later that day laid the foundations for an impressive City performance in training, as Lukas Jutkiewicz’s and Gary McSheffrey - the latter with a magnificent solo effort - struck in between a brace from Clarets forward Jay Rodriguez.

Thorn said: “I thought the boys were absolutely fantastic, we changed quite a bit in a short period of time.”

He added: “We loaded a lot of information into them in one go and I thought they were awesome.

“For large periods of the game we were in control against a very good side pushing for promotion.

“I like the way we kept the ball, our work ethic was fantastic and they were a credit to the football club. I felt, maybe, we deserved a little bit more from the game.

“That’s what we’ve got to build on, those are our standards and we have to go on from there.”

Burnley boss Eddie Howe admitted that City’s expansive formation caught his side on the hop.

“Coventry put us under pressure and credit to them, they performed very well,” he said. “It was a complete change of approach and a releasing of the shackles. They came here with nothing to lose.”

“I gave the players the chance to put Saturday right and we didn’t get the response we expected, so it’s something we’ll look at against Bristol City at the weekend.”
