ON Bank Holiday Monday, Burnley Under 11s A won the Euxton cricket tournament.
They were one of eight teams across Lancashire that attended, including local rivals Lowerhouse.
Burnley were in a division with Clifton CC, Mawdsley CC and Euxton B team.
Burnley had a great start, winning against Mawdsley, scoring 287 to their opponents’ 214.
The next match saw a thriller of a game against Clifton, which ended on Clifton requiring one off the final ball. but an amazing diving catch from Sam Molloy saw Burnley snatch the win.
The final game against Euxton saw Burnley take their third win, 276 to 218.
Highlights across the games saw Adam Khan and Quasim Shah hitting sixes, and double figure batting from Jake Blakey, Shah, Khan, Bryce Johnstone, Sam Molloy ,Tanbir Rahman and Max Dawson.
The showdown saw a final between the winner from the other group, Chorley and Burnley, which proved to be a nail-biter.
Chorley lost the toss and batted first, and were contained to 229 by some great bowling from Max Dawson.
Burnley took it to the last over, needing one to win off six balls.
Molloy hitting the one, and Khan sensibly defended the lead as Burnley won the tournament.
Stephen Whittaker said: “The boys put in a great team performance on a very cold day and I am proud of every single one of them.
“It’s a great start to the season and I hope we can continue performing well as a team for the rest of the games.”
The team had got their first game of the season under their belts as an away fixture at Ramsbottom the previous Thursday evening saw an away victory.
Burnley won the toss and chose to field first, and Ramsbottom were steady away but came up against some great fielding and great bowling.
Haider Ali Khan claimed a pair of wickets in his third over and a fantastic run out, and there were maiden overs from both Molloy and Adam Khan.
Burnley took to the bat chasing 231 with some great batting from Max Dawson and Bryce Johnstone.
A good all round performance from Jake Blakey and Tanbir Rahman a fantastic six from Quasim Shah saw Burnley close on 246.
