Burnley second string travelled to Church for the opening game of the season and the weather made it’s mark from the start.

The game was reduced to 37 overs, but a further heavy shower meant that Church had to leave the field at 71-2 off 21 overs. When play resumed, Church could only face a further six overs and added 28 runs to set Burnley exactly 100 for the win.

Josh Whitehead posted 4-26 off 13 overs and was ably supported by sharp fielding, especially 13-year-old Tom Lawson.

Lamb and Ali Syed opened the innings and enjoyed a 43-run partnership before Syed mis-timed a pull shot and was caught for 16. Not long after this Lamb fell to a smart catch at cover point when a ball got up on him a little having chalked up 28 runs.

Gus Whitehead hit a flat six over square leg, before he was caught behind for eight and suddenly it was game on with Burnley 59-3.Young Matt Lamb and the more experienced Josh Whitehead put on a fourth-wicket stand of 38. Patience, good running between the wickets and a couple of big sixes from Whitehead took the game beyond Church, but another late twist saw Lamb caught at gully for 13 with only three runs needed.

Whitehead pulled a big six over mid-wicket to bring proceedings to a close, finishing on 33 not out
