Whitehead fires a ton on county debut

LOWERHOUSE’S Jonny Whitehead scored a century on his Lancashire Under 19s debut at Southport on Saturday.

Lancashire made 202-8 in their 45 overs, of which Jonny made 137 not out, including a six and 21 fours, in an 80-run win.

The 17-year-old said: “It’s fantastic to be involved, and I’ve been made captain for the next game, which is an absolute honour.”

• EASTER Sunday sees the Surridge Challenge between Lancashire League champions Lowerhouse and Ribblesdale League title winners Baxenden at Back Lane.

The match will be played over 40 overs, starting at 1-30 p.m.

• DERBY rivals Padiham and Read do battle tomorrow at the Arbories for the Malcolm Heyworth Trophy, wickets pitched at 12-30 p.m.

Chris Holt is back as professional after a winter playing for Williamstown in Australia.

John Bushell remains as captain.
