Pupils from two Burnley-based schools have taken victory in girls’ cricket and high five netball to seal two of the final places at this year’s SPAR Lancashire School Games County Finals.
The team from Burnley High School and St Joseph’s Park Hill School competed against 28 other schools from Burnley to bag the top spots and will now progress to the SPAR Lancashire School Games County Final at Blackpool’s Stanley Park on June 30th.
After a highly-contested netball final, which had to be played a second time after the first match ended in a 3-3 draw, St Joseph’s Park Hill School snatched first place from Wellfield Methodist and Anglican Church School with a five-point lead.
Helen Tyson, who is the Burnley school games organiser, said: “As the event was held at St Joseph’s Park Hill School, the team made the most of the home advantage.”
This year’s Burnley girls’ cricket qualifiers for the SPAR Lancashire School Games was held at Burnley Cricket Club which has a thriving girls’ cricket section.
Helen added: “The standard of competition and sportsmanship on show was exceptionally high so all participants should be really proud of themselves.
“Well done to Burnley High School which will represent the district at the county finals – I wish you all the very best of luck.”
