Read will face Oswaldtwistle Immanuel in the quarter-final of the Twenty20 competition after beating Clitheroe at Chatburn Road.

The 44-run triumph secured second spot in Group Two and qualification for the defending champions who will travel to New Lane to continue the defence of their crown on Friday.

Skipper Kyle O’Connor top-scored for the visitors with 44 in his side’s 147-5 tally before being bowled by Jack Dewhurst.

O’Connor put on 63 for the opening wicket alongside South African paid man Keegan Petersen (31), who was the first victim of the evening when Joshua Marquet forced an lbw decision.

Michael Whalley (16) and Joe Marshall (10) pushed the tally towards 100 before unbeaten knocks of 25 and 14 from Thomas Turner and Elliot Lowes respectively gave Read the initiative.

Clitheroe professional Janaka Guneratne fired 47, but the pairing of Lowes (4-9) and Petersen (3-23) proved too prolific. .

Meanwhile, Petersen reached three figures for a second successive weekend with an unbeaten 144 in Read’s triumph over Baxenden.

The South African, who had previously struck 139 against Edenfield, contributed heavily to Read’s total of 254-4 at Whalley Road. And it proved decisive.

Liam Watkinson and David Mills hit half centuries for the visitors, who eventually fell 20 runs short.

Elsewhere, Padiham also earned a place in the final eight of the Twenty20 despite a 71-run loss to Settle.

Callum Clarke’s side will face Cherry Tree at Preston Old Road.
