Read lose ground in the title race

READ slipped back to third in the Ribblesdale Cricket League after a weekend of mixed fortunes.

The Whalley Road team beat Clitheroe on Saturday but could not manage to defeat unbeaten runaway leaders Barnoldwick on Sunday.

Chasing down a Clitheroe total of 167-9, Read’s Jordan Clark hit 82 as Read finished on 170-5 to win by five wickets.

The following day though they were bowled out for 219 with Barnoldswick losing just four wickets on their way to 224.

Meanwhile, Padiham endured a miserable double header weekend losing at home to Whalley and then away to Salesbury.

Nesir Mehmood’s 62 helped them to a total of 208 all out against Whalley but they were unable to prevent the opposition reaching 210-5 comfortably.

It was the same story on the Sunday against Salesbury who reached 202-3 in 33 overs in reply to Padiham’s 198-8, giving them a seven wicket win.

This weekend Padiham are away to Edenfield on Saturday before entertaining Read on the Sunday. Read also take on Cherry Tree at home on Saturday.
