Kyle O’Connor’s side eased past the hosts in the semi-final by three wickets, after dismissing their Bury opponents for 93, having won the toss and put Brooksbottom in to bat.

And they were even more comprehensive winners in the final as they saw off Cherry Tree by 60 runs.

Tree won the toss and elected to field, and Read totalled 116-7, before bowling the Blackburn side out for just 56.

Read hadn’t won the competition in the previous 10 years it had been held, and have gone 10 years without winning the league, and 11 without winning the Ramsbottom Cup.

Meanwhile, the previous day in the league, Read lost by seven runs at Euxton as they missed a chance to make up some ground on leaders Clitheroe, whose game at third-place Whalley was abandoned.

The hosts posted a score of 120-9, before bowling the locals out for 113.

Elliot Lowes and Brandon Scullard continued their good form with the ball, taking 4-42 and 3-45 respectively, but it was all in vain as Preston White and Oliver Marsden claimed four wickets apiece for Euxton, added to two run outs, as Read fell short.

Mohammed Zafran and Connor Lowes top-scored with 20 each in reply.

Padiham’s travails continued, however, as they lost by four wickets to Cherry Tree, and now only Brooksbottom lie below them in the league table.

Daryl Losper hit 73 of their 148-8, but Tree passed their target with six wickets down.

• Read seconds reached the Lawrenson Cup Final on Sunday when they beat Ribblesdale Wanderers by 84 runs, after scoring 219-6.
