Worsley Cup holders Burnley have signed Chris Holt as professional for 2014.

The 24-year-old slow left arm spinner comes to Turf Moor after serving as Padiham’s pro for the last three season.

After beginning his career at Read he played a season at Colne in 2008 before returning to Read where he captained the team in 2010.

Holt, who stood in as sub professional for Rishton in 2011, made his Minor Counties debut for Cumberland in 2013, playing two matches.

Burnley chairman Michael Brown said: “He is a very talented all round cricketer and the type of character we are delighted to welcome to Burnley CC.”

Holt will replace Burnley’s outgoing pro Adnan Rasool who left the club for finanical reason.

“He is a fantastic bowler as his performances have shown,” said Brown. “He is also a great person who was much respected and well liked.”

Last season Holt finished top run scorer in the Ribblesdale League, hitting 923 runs at an average of 31.83. He was also the league’s leading wicket taker finishing with 92 victims at an average of 21.85.

He was unable to prevent the Arbories side from finisihing bottom of the league though.
