PADIHAM captain John Bushell bemoaned a host of simple mistakes which he felt cost his side the win against Ribblesdale Wanderers.
Winning the toss, the Arbories side, who have been in fine form during recent weeks, elected to field and were set a commanding total of 190 by Ribblesdale.
In the end that total proved too much with Padiham eventually skittled out for 152.
Bushell said they should never have been chasing a target that high though with errors in the field costing them a large number of runs.
“It was a really disappointing result,” he said. “It was disappointing performance as well to be honest, especially considering how well we have been playing in recent weeks.
“We dropped around four catches during their innings and this meant they were able to score about another 40 or 50 runs more than they should have done. We felt that we should have been able to restrict them to a total of 150 and I believe that would have been a relatively easy target for us to chase down. So it was frustrating that they went on to score what they did. They were really simple mistakes.”
Chris Holt was the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 4-60.
Bushell went on: “We actually started off quite well batting. Chris Holt and Kevin Hitchon gave us a good start but Chris was out for 37 and nobody went on to make a big score which is what we needed really. We could have done with somebody getting a getting a score of 50 or 60 and that I feel would have given us a really good chance of chasing down their total.
“All in all though we were beaten by the better side and now we’ve got to pick ourselves up and make sure we’re ready for this weekend’s game. Hopefully we can get back to winning ways and get ourselves back on track.”
Padiham take on Oswaldtwistle at home this Saturday.
