Jimmy Anderson back on honours board at Lord’s

The 28-year-old’s eye-catching performance in the first Test against India paid a fitting tribute to the venue’s milestone as the Mecca of cricket hosted it’s 2,000th Test.

Anderson claimed 5-65 on the final day to accelerate the Three Lions’ bid of usurping MS Dhoni’s men as the World’s number one Test team.

He was instrumental in the victory, which culminated in a margin of 196 runs, as his victims possessed 103 Test centuries between them.

Those men included Rahul Dravid, V.V.S. Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh.

That feat, in the first of a four-match series, was deservedly carved in front of a bumper crowd at ‘Headquarters’, and it became the third time he had registered his name on the Honours Board, housed in the home and away dressing rooms, following similar successes against India in 2007 (5-42) and Zimbabwe in 2003 (5-73).

He has now taken 43 wickets in 10 matches at the ground.

And Anderson, whose name will sit alongside some of the greatest cricket players ever to have appeared at Lord’s, needs three more wickets to pip Darren Gough and become the ninth highest wicket-taker for his country.

Meanwhile another Burnley boy done good, Michael Brown, has announced his retirement from County Cricket.

The 31-year-old chairman of Burnley Cricket Club made his Turf Moor debut at the tender age of 15 and went on to make his first class debut for Middlesex in 1999.

From there Brown joined Hampshire in 2004 before signing for Surrey in 2008.

In 2010 he spent a three-week spell in Trinidad playing for National League side Clico Preysal Sports Club however, on his return to The Oval for the start of the 2010 County Championship, Brown was left out of the Surrey line-up.

In a County career spanning 11 years Brown smashed more than 4,500 first class runs, including eight centuries and 26 half-centuries, and almost 300 runs in Twenty20 competitions.

He has so far scored 96 runs in the four Lancashire League matches he’s featured in during Burnley’s current campaign, and he is in the side to face East Lancashire on Sunday.
