Harvey the inspiration as Read get up and running in double-header

After suffering an opening day reverse against Settle, Read got up and running with a pair of victories in the first Ribblesdale League double-header.

On Saturday, against Ribble Valley rivals Salesbury, “Mr Reliable” Jon Harvey proved the match-winner with an inpired all-round performance.

The former Burnley man made 57 as Read totalled 219-9 at Whalley Road.

And in the visitors’ reply, Harvey claimed 6-51 as Read cruised to a 98-run.

The following day, Read were again up against opponents from the Ribble Valley in Whalley at Station Road.

Whalley were restricted to 128-8, before Read knocked off the winning runs with three wickets to spare.

Read host Cherry Tree on Saturday.

In the First Division, Read seconds lost to Salesbury by eight wickets, having been dismissed f0r 122. But in the Third Division, Read thirds beat Clitheroe by five wickets, with Kieren Grimshaw making 69 and Tom Turner 61.
