Cricketers’ charity bike ride

A GROUP of local cricketers are swapping whites for lycra as they take on a charity cycling challenge.

Adam and Scott Hope, Will Driver and Matt and Scott Doughty - who have all played in the Lancashire League for Lowerhouse - will be part of a team of seven who will cycle from Liverpool to Leeds.

Three will do the ride for Cancer Research, three for Pendleside Hospice and one for The Autistic Society.

They have been fundraising for a couple of weeks, with their total at £595 at the last count, and the sum can be tracked at, with an overall target of £2,500.

The date is set for September 6th, starting in Liverpool, where the group have been donated two hotel rooms by Dolby Hotels to enable them to set off at 5 a.m.

They plan to do the ride over two days, staying locally as the midpoint on the first night.

l THERE will again be a fun cricket tournament at Lowerhouse Cricket Club on Good Friday.

The club are hoping the weather will be kind for the players taking part, competing for the Jack Heyes Trophy.

The first game starts at 10-15 a.m. and the final should start about 2-30 p.m.

The bar will be open all day and food will be available.

Local band Inner Frenzy at around 4 p.m. Kids games and entertainment will also be going on in and around the club.

The teams competing so far this year are Lowerhouse Supporters, It’s never too late, Hairy Bails, St Augustine’s staff, Lowerhouse ladies, and Ted’s Old Boys.

l PADIHAM host the annual Pub Knockout at the Abories Memorial Sports Cricket Ground on Sunday, April 24th.

The competition will begin at 10 a.m. prompt, and teams interested in taking part should ring Steve Meehan (07976855652) for details.

Padiham would like to thank Sainsbury’s in Burnley for allowing their junior section to carry out a bag packing event on Sunday, helping raise a considerable amount of money for the junior section of the club.

Padiham will host Lowerhouse in a pre-season friendly tomorrow, starting at 1 p.m.
