Burnley’s Jimmy Anderson in Ashes ‘broken arm’ storm

Burnley’s Jimmy Anderson became embroiled in an Ashes storm after Australian skipper Michael Clarke was charged by the ICC.

Clarke was charged under Article 2.1.4 of the ICC code of conduct for using “language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match”.

The stump microphones picked up Clarke’s threats which suggested that the English pace bowler was about to have his arm broken by Australia’s Mitchell Johnson, who was about to bowl.

Following a spat between Anderson and George Bailey, the Australian fielding at short leg, Clarke became involved in the situation and was heard saying “get ready to have your f****** arm broken” just before the match arrived at its conclusion.

Clarke has consequently been fined 20 per cent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council.

Anderson was unable to prevent England from crashing to a 381-run defeat in the First Test Match in Brisbane.
