THE “Burnley Express” James Anderson is encouraging the local sports community to compete in this year’s Northern Sports Awards.
The England and Lancashire bowler won the Sportsman of the Year title at last year’s event and is the official ambassador for the 2012 awards.
Anderson said: “I was fortunate enough to win Sportsman of the Year at last year’s Northern Sports Awards and it was a great honour so I’m delighted to be the official ambassador.
“The awards are a fantastic celebration of everything that is good about professional and grassroots sports in the North of England, and I would encourage as many individuals and organisations as possible to enter and nominate so the hard work on and off the pitch is recognised.”
The awards will be shortlisted by a panel, with winners decided by a public vote at www.northernsportsawards.co.uk and through the event’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.
The categories are: Best Community Programme, Best Grassroots Club/Scheme, Best Grassroots Sports Coach, Best Northern Sports Journalist, Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Rising Star of the Year, Team of the Year, Sports Manager/Coach of the Year, Best Sports Sponsorship of the Year, Best Sports Marketing and Communications Campaign, Best Digital Marketing Campaign, Best Sports Related Website, Best New Sports Technology, Best Professional Services to Sport Award, Unsung Hero of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Sporting Event of the Year and Sporting Moment of the Year
The closing date for nominations is April 27th, and the event will be held at Lancashire County Cricket Club’s The Point on July 2nd.
