Burnley confident ahead of the derby

BURNLEY enjoyed a double header weekend to remember as they finally turned promising performances into positive results.

A comprehensive seven-wicket Twenty/20 victory over Lowerhouse on Friday night set the tone for the weekend, the team going on to crush Enfield by 138 runs in the Lancashire League.

Captain Steve Brunt said: “We played well from start to finish and it was a good win.

“It’s always good to beat Lowerhouse and both sets of players are always desperate to win this fixture.

“It was great to play in front of so many people. Apparently the attendance was pushing on towards 1,500 which is great.

“It was good that we took the form into Enfield game.

“As I’ve been saying all season, we’ve been playing well but just not getting the results.

“We did really well with the bat, bowled in all the right places and the pro (Adnan Rasool) did his stuff.”

And another exciting weekend of action awaits the Belvedere Road side who are back in Twenty/20 action tonight against Nelson, before a pair of mouth-watering league clashes, starting with a home game against Accrington on Sunday before a trip to Lowerhouse once again, on the Monday.

“It’s a busy weekend,” said Brunt.

“We’ve been on the wrong end of a couple of close games against Nelson already this season so we definitely owe them one.

“We obviously want to go as far as we can in the Twenty/20 so that’s a big game for us.

“Then in the league, Accrington are third and Lowerhouse are obviously top so they are going to be a couple of really tough games.

“We have a full squad to pick from, everyone is confident and in good spirits and so we’re looking forward to it.”

As well as their game against Burnley on Monday, league leaders Lowerhouse are also in action away to Ramsbottom on Sunday, where they will be looking to make it seven league wins out of seven.

Over in the Ribblesdale Cricket League, Padiham will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing weekend when they take on Edenfield away tomorrow, and Read at home on Sunday.

Read are also in action against Cherry Tree at home on Saturday.
