BURNLEY independent brewery Moorhouses have agreed to sponsor the Lancashire Cricket League’s 20/20 competition for the next three seasons.

Following the recent announcement that the league and Worsley Cup are to be sponsored by Heineken UK Ltd - with both now carrying the name of Fosters - Moorhouses have also come on board to back the incresingly-popular shorter format until the 2014 campaign.

League chairman Mike Bibby said: “The League Executive are delighted to have been able to attract such a well-known local company as sponsors of one of our competitions.

“The league , which this year enjoys it’s 120th anniversary since formation, are proud to be associated with local brewers Moorhouses, who were formed in 1865.

“Moorhouses are the top Independent Brewers who have a long and proud history, and, being based in Burnley, are right in the heartland of the area covering the member clubs of the Lancashire League.

“We look forward to working with the directors and staff of Moorhouses in promoting their business and working together to ensure our League 20/20 competition goes from strength to strength over the next three years.”

The competition is played on consecutive Friday evenings throughout June and early July and, given reasonable weather, attracts a large number of spectators to many games.

• IN preparation for the new season, champions Lowerhouse have arranged a series of warm-up matches.

The April 7th trip to Morecambe has now been cancelled, but the seconds host Ribblesdale League side Ribblesdale Wanderers.

The following day sees the special Surridge Challenge match at Ribblesdale League winners Baxenden.

The same day, April 8th, the West Enders’ seconds are at home to their Read counterparts.

April 14th sees the first team travel to face Farnworth, with the seconds host the Bolton League club’s second team.

The day after, Lowerhouse host Read in the Lancashire Cup, before, on the 21st, travelling to Worsley Cup winners Ramsbottom for the Ron Singleton Trophy. The same day, the seconds host Burnley in their final friendly.

• BURNLEY Cricket Club’s AGM will be held on Friday, March, 9th, at 8-30 p.m. at the club.

All members are welcome to attend.
